Hello, my name is Chevine Holloway I’m from the Stoney Nakoda First Nations reserve Mînî Thnî, Alberta. I recently obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Communications Majoring in Journalism and Digital Media from Mount Royal University. My academic career has challenged me and taught me to be a leader. While being a student, I had the opportunity to write for the Calgary Journal. This experience taught me how to work as a journalist in a professional setting; it is also where I developed a passion for community reporting. The growth, development, and overall well-being of my community is my priority. As a journalist I hope to publish stories that support indigenous communities and give individuals a voice to share their stories.
Writing for the Calgary Journal gave me the experience I needed to understand what it means to work as a Journalist; how to work with others, how to work against the deadline, and how to ethically and responsibly create credible news stories. I also had the opportunity to work as an editor for the Calgary Journal, I instantly found enjoyment in supporting other students with their publication goals.
I have always had a passion for photography. It is what initially drew me into the journalism program at Mount Royal University. In high school I joined a school club called Through The Lens, organized by local photographer Craig Richards. He taught me how to work with film photography, and how to produce photos in a dark room. My photography skills have significantly improved over the years and as part of the required curriculum to obtain my bachelors I have taken several photo editing courses. I am confident in my ability to edit photos and create new designs using Adobe suites.
